FOG loses ?F1? trademark fight

A European court has rejected Formula One Group's attempt to get exclusive rights to the "F1" abbreviation as a trademark. The General Court in Luxembourg, Europe's second-highest court, said on Thursday that "Formula One Licensing cannot prevent the registration of a (European) Community trademark containing the words 'F1 LIVE'." "There is no likelihood of confusion between the mark applied for and Formula One Licensing's marks, given the low degree of similarity between the marks and the descriptive character that the public attributes to the abbreviation 'F1'," the ruling said

Silverstone National for BTCC finale

Silverstone's National circuit will host the final round of this year's British Touring Car Championship. A provisional calendar had been announced by series organiser TOCA following the end of the 2010 season, announcing that the season finale was switching from Brands Hatch to Silverstone, but did not specify which layout would be used. TOCA chairman Alan Gow admitted to AUTOSPORT last December that he was evaluating a switch to the new South circuit, which would have utilised the new Formula 1 pitlane and paddock.
