Kolles: Karthikeyan has improved

Narain Karthikeyan will prove himself to be a faster and stronger driver than when he was last in Formula 1, claims his new team boss Colin Kolles. The Indian racer caused a surprise on Thursday when he announced that he was returning to F1 after a five-year absence. Although the financial support from personal sponsor the Tata Group played a key role in smoothing the way for Karthikeyan's return, Kolles is confident that the 33-year-old will also show better form this time around than he did when he raced for Jordan in 2005.

Premat chasing BMW drive

Former Audi driver Alexandre Premat has targeted a drive with BMW when the manufacturer returns to the DTM in 2012. Premat was fired by Audi ahead of the DTM finale last season, after he ran the New York Marathon while he was supposed to be recovering from a huge crash at Adria. The Frenchman is currently without a drive for 2011, but he hopes that his experience in the DTM will appeal to BMW.

U.S. Auto Safety Standards: Undermining Efficiency, Ignoring Pedestrians

We’ve written before about how perverse “safety standards” imperil pedestrians when it comes to street design. It’s disappointing to discover some of the same flawed logic is at work in the safety regulations for automobiles themselves. Network blog Systemic Failure is highlighting how safety rules for American motor vehicles are not only preventing car companies from [...]

Kubica to miss Monte Carlo Rally

Renault Formula 1 star Robert Kubica will not take part in the Monte Carlo Rally, this week's AUTOSPORT magazine reveals. For the second year in succession the Polish driver's attempts to get into the French Alpine stages have come unstuck - last year it was due to an engine failure on the prologue stage, but this time it is reported to be a contractual issue with his full-time employer. Kubica had been looking to drive a Super 2000 car from a manufacturer other than Renault, which does not have a vehicle suitable for the Intercontinental Rally Challenge's top class.

SRO: F3 date clash was unavoidable

Difficulties securing a British Formula 3 date at the Nurburgring for 2011 meant the new FIA F3 International Trophy could not visit Silverstone in its inaugural season, British championship organisers have revealed. The original plan was for the F3 Euro Series' proposed September date at Silverstone to double up as a round of the new six-event 'world championship' for F3. This would have made it easier to attract British teams to a Euro Series race and thus maximise the grid

A Lesson in Heading Off Anti-Reform Rhetoric

To opponents of sustainable transportation, incremental reforms designed to level the playing field between cars and other modes of transportation can too easily be seen — or characterized — as a plot to take away their vehicles and homes in the suburbs. For a particularly apt example, look no further than Fred Barnes’ recent article [...]
